Who Is Physician Life Management?

The primary contributor to the PhysicianLifeManagement.com website is me, Jeff Steiner.  I am a double boarded pediatric anesthesiologist who works full time at a children’s hospital.  Prior to medical school, I worked as a full-time paramedic in a 911 system and had training in medical support for Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams.   In my senior year of residency, I was Chief Resident and after my residency, I went on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology.

Since completing my formal education in Anesthesiology, I have completed my Master in Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in healthcare administration.  I am also a volunteer mentor with the Careers in Medicine (CiM) program at two local medical schools.

Why the Website?

There were three main reasons why I built this website.

1)  You need a website with insider information managing your life as a physician.

You have three main areas of your life:

Along with these three areas, you also have to manage your Rest.   Rest really deals with Sleep, Fatigue, Stress, and Burnout.  All these overlaps between the main areas of your life.

2) You need strategy and tactics to manage your home life, training, and career.

Medical schools and residencies do a great job of teaching you about medicine.  However, most fall short of teaching you how to manage your home life, training, and career.  You have probably been told that you need to “take care of yourself.”  How do you do that when you are trying to study for the next exam, get through call, or make enough time in your clinic schedule?

Instead of telling you what you “should” be doing, we show you how to do it.

This is the type of information I wish I had during my training.   I have gone through all the hoops to become a physician and now I am in the middle of my career.

3) You need a website that complements the information you are already learning about.

Professional societies, journals, and training programs are studying the effects of physician trainee burnout. Because physicians are paying better attention to taking care of ourselves, you will probably see more information become available for you.  I want this website to help you organize some of this information so that you have an information hub you can refer back to.

We are rolling out more articles soon, so check back regularly to see what we have to offer.
