Physician Life Management – The Book

Physician Life Management – The Book

The Physician Life Management Book.  We are putting the final touches on a book that has been years in the making.  (Too many years in the making, if you ask me.)

The Physician Life Management:  The insider’s guide to reduce your stress, hack your training, advance your future career, and enjoy your life more. The book is available on Amazon as a Kindle or paperback version.

Why You Need This Book

You have read dozens of books about managing patients and diseases throughout your training to become a physician. But, probably none about managing your own life as a physician.  We are often told that the patient comes first, and it gets drilled into our heads.  How are you supposed to take care of others well when your life is barely holding together? Your training is instructing you on how to become a physician, not how to manage your life as a physician. What you need is a resource to help you manage your home life, training, and your future career. In this book, I will show you practical solutions, which will decrease your stress, make your training easier, and set you up for a successful career as a physician.

As a husband, father, former Chief Resident, and current Program Director in a busy pediatric anesthesiology practice, I know the challenges of trying to balance home life, training, and career. I wanted a book that would teach me how to do that, to actually live as a balanced physician. I couldn’t find the book I wanted, so I wrote my own. I’ve gathered information far and wide and have put it into a book that you can use the information from today.

This book is part survival guide and part self-help book, all rolled into one for the busy physician in training.  These are just some of the features you will get out of this book. In the first section, I will introduce you to guiding principles that you will use throughout the book and throughout your journey to becoming a better physician and human.  In the next section on Rest, I will show you how to improve your sleep, reduce your stress, and build resiliency. In the Home section, I am going to help you to enhance your communication, grow your relationships, and get a better handle on your finances. In the Training section, I’ll show you how to get the most of your training without running yourself into the ground and it can actually make your training more enjoyable. Finally, in the Career section, I’m going to show you how to prepare for a career, and once you’re done with training, how to advance your career.

All of the professionals who have read early drafts of this book told me they learned something new that they could put to use straight away.  Some of the residents who have read this book told me that they wish they would have had the information when they were a med student. Some of the staff physicians that read the book have told me they reread the career section because they wanted to advance their careers.

I promise if you read this book and put even a fraction of the information in the practice, you will be less stressed, enjoy your training more, and will have a good roadmap for your future career.  Take control of your Rest, Home Life, Training, and Career. If you wait until the best time to read this book, it will never happen. From the time you start pre-med classes until the time you graduate from residency, a lot happens in those decades of living. This is a time in your training you should focus on yourself. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by at a chance to improve your life today.
